Abstract

Trading Standards Officers have no control over portion sizes of chips and these can vary widely. Fast food chains are able to sell relatively small portions to maximise their return on capital. Fish and chip shops, on the other hand, tend to offer larger portions, presumably so that customers will perceive this as ‘value for money’.
