Abstract

It is possible that stress has always been a major hazard of organisational life. However, it is only relatively recently that this condition has been recognised in terms of its enormous potential for both personal and organisational damage. A substantial and well‐established literature now exists in relation to stress and some practical effort is being expended on its amelioration, based on the knowledge and understanding accrued to date.
