Minister launches inward investment live on the Internet

Minister for the Regions, Regeneration and Planning, Richard Caborn, has launched a new property database on the Internet at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. The "strategic sites database" revolutionises the inward investment process and enables the English regions to market themselves as leading inward investment locations in Europe.

The database has been developed by English Partnerships, the Government's Urban Regeneration Agency. It can be accessed from anywhere in the world via the English Partnerships Website at: www.englishpartnerships.co.uk.

Connecting the database to the Internet provides a fast, accurate and up-to-date information service on the best sites currently available to facilitate companies which are considering investing or expanding in the English regions, as well as providing landowners with a new way of marketing their sites internationally.

The database is a world first, giving key information on all major sites in the English regions which can be interrogated to respond to company's specific criteria. All sites on the database match a specific model which has been drawn up to recognize the property requirements of potential inward investors.

Speaking at the launch, Richard Caborn said: "I congratulate English Partnerships on developing this important new inward investment facility. I am convinced that the new system is a major step forward in ensuring that the English regions can compete effectively for inward investors. It will be a significant tool for the Investment in Britain Bureau, regional development organisations (RDO) and the new regional development agencies (RDA) once established.

"I would therefore urge landowners to bring forward suitable sites for consideration and encourage others involved in the inward investment process to make maximum use of the new system," said the minister.

During a live demonstration of the new system, English Partnership's chief executive, Anthony Dunnett, announced: "The database will complement the work of all those involved in inward investment, including the IBB, regional bodies, property agents, landowners, intermediaries and end-users themselves. It will help to speed up and simplify the process to the benefit of everyone concerned.

"English Partnerships has a proven track record of meeting the property requirements of inward investors such as Capital One, ADI, Pfizer, Siemens, Ford and BMW/Rover. Our experts can provide the entire package of property services from site identification, planning, project management, infrastructure provision and guidance on wider construction issues. This database further enhances the professional capabilities of English Partnerships in this field," added Anthony Dunnett.
