Awards for Excellence

Jürgen Krönig Cork Institute of Technology, Cork, Ireland

is the recipient of the journal's Outstanding Paper Award for Excellence for his paper

"Europe, nationstate and globalisation"

which appeared in New European, Vol. 13 No. 2 2001

Jürgen Krönig has been the UK Political Correspondent for the German weekly Die Zeit since 1989. He also works as a freelance author and broadcaster for radio, television and various publications in Germany, Switzerland and Britain. He has written extensively about globalisation, information revolution and media conglomerates, as well as about scientific and environmental topics, the debates about global warming, GM food and the global oil reserves. To his special areas of interest belong agriculture and the response of science, politics and media to agrarian disasters like BSE and FMD and he has been invited to lecture about these topics by political and scientific institutions in Germany and by the German Farmers Union.

He read politics and history at the Freie Universität Berlin, then worked as an editor and foreign correspondent for German Broadcasting until he joined Die Zeit.
