Daily updates for FAME

Daily updates for FAME

FAME, the database of UK and Irish company information, is now updated daily. FAME, which is co-published by Bureau van Dijk (BvD), is available on both the Internet and DVD-ROM. It contains detailed accounts for 1.6 million companies with summaries for a further 1.1 million companies. Supplementary data includes news, market research, brands, activities, directors and company structures.

The information that relates to winding up petitions, creditors meetings and administration orders is sourced from the London and Edinburgh gazettes. This is now both collected and updated on a daily basis. A daily feed from Companies House, plus quoted companies' hard copy accounts when published prior to official filing dates, provide the basis for the financials. This, and the complementary information, are also updated daily, reducing waiting times for the latest figures and changes in companies' particulars.

Both Internet and DVD users of FAME will have access to the latest data feeds; DVD users can switch their access option between the DVD and the FAME server in Brussels, depending on how time critical their research is.

"FAME incorporates alert software so users can be notified as soon as there are changes in the companies they are monitoring – with daily updates this function is even more beneficial", said Tony Pringle, manager of BvD's UK office and product specialist for its UK products. Geoff Wilcock, director of information services at Jordans added, "Our fundamental goal is to get the data from the public file and then onto FAME as quickly and as accurately as possible, correctly linked to all the supplementary data. Now the vast majority of this data will be available online less than 24 hours after we receive it. And we are still able to subject the data to the same variety of quality control tests".
