Keywords Collaboration, Colleges, Local authorities, Schools, Young people

A study commissioned for the Further Education Funding Council and the Local Government Association highlights best practice in collaboration between further-education colleges and local education authorities.

The study, Effective Collaboration, looks at how working together can improve the educational opportunities available to young people, by raising standards, improving progression and reducing wastage.

Individual studies explain why the collaboration began, how it works, what arrangements are in place to monitor effectiveness, what benefits have been achieved and how difficulties have been overcome.

Baroness Blackstone, minister for education and employment, commented: "The Government is keen to promote local learning partnerships for young people who are over 16. This publication shows how effective joint working by schools and colleges can encourage young people into learning and provide increased choice and higher standards."

Copies of the study are available by calling the Further Education Funding Council communications helpdesk, on 01203 863265.
