Marie Curie grants have been given to more than 3,200 projects under the so-called "fourth framework" programme for research and technological development in Europe. The projects include: 963 in the life sciences, 642 in physics, 452 in chemistry, 451 in economics, 284 in mathematics, 243 in applied sciences and 172 in earth science. The next stage of the EU research and technological development programme, which takes effect next year, is expected to more than double the amount of money available for Marie Curie grants. Young researchers, in particular, are expected to benefit.
