Public hungry for online education

Keywords Adult education, Internet

Around 86 per cent of regular Internet users would like to improve their skills and knowledge through online education. If they had access to a 24-hour virtual teacher, 45 per cent of them would like to study for a professional qualification, 44 per cent would learn how to improve their computer skills and 38 per cent would learn how to use the Internet better.

Some 70 per cent of 24-29-year-olds would learn a foreign language if they had access to a virtual teacher. Only 13 per cent of all Internet users would not like to benefit from a virtual 24-hour teacher.

Online learning was not limited to academic subjects. One-tenth of all Internet users would like to learn parenting skills, how to improve their cooking or car maintenance and almost one-fifth would like to study do-it-yourself and home decorating.

The study was Motorola's sixth annual British and Technology report.
