Programmes put business of creativity in focus
Programmes put business of creativity in focusKeywords: Creativity, Entrepreneurialism
A group of four higher education institutions has been awarded £430,000 from the European Social Fund for two projects aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills. The money will go to the Higher Education Capability partnership, which includes Middlesex University, Leeds University, Staffordshire University and the London College of Printing. Half the money will go towards continuing a previous Web-based project which helps supervisors of small and medium-size firms to improve on skills such as business management, mentoring and accounting. The rest will go to a programme enabling unemployed graduates to take postgraduate courses that focus on business start-ups. The programme focuses on product-design engineering, computer software, electronic business and the creative industries. Peter Newby, of Middlesex University, said: "Not everyone is trained in how to deal with being an entrepreneur. We want to learn how to develop the capability within entrepreneurs, find out what motivates them and what their personal resources are so we can all understand how they get their creativity."
