Council adopts declaration on racism

Council adopts declaration on racismKeywords: Young people, Discrimination, Race relations, Internet

The European Youth Council has adopted a declaration on the fight against racism and xenophobia on the Internet. The declaration stresses the crucial role played by schools and youth organizations in increasing young people's knowledge of racism and xenophobia and teaching them critically to scrutinise the material spread by racists on the Internet. It insists on the accountability of access providers, who should allow users to inform the police of the existence of racist and xenophobic sites. The council also adopted a resolution entitled "From Exclusion to Empowerment: Promoting Young People's Initiative, Enterprise and Creativity". It invites the Commission and EU member states to integrate and promote young people's initiative, enterprise and creativity in combating exclusion, fighting racism and educating young people as critical consumers of music, film and other creative industries.
