Bulgaria tops table for youth unemployment

Bulgaria tops table for youth unemployment

Almost 40 per cent of young people in Bulgaria are unemployed, according to figures from the EU statistics office, Eurostat. Youth unemployment is also high in Slovakia (37 per cent) and Poland (36 per cent). The lowest rate of youth unemployment in central Europe is in Hungary (12 per cent). More young men than young women are out of work in all the countries except Poland. Young women fare particularly well in the labour markets of Slovakia and Bulgaria. On average, two young unemployed people out of three are registered with public employment bureaux. But the level varies from 90 per cent in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to 25 per cent in Estonia and Lithuania.
