Advanced vocational education in Sweden

Advanced vocational education in Sweden

A new form of post-secondary education was introduced in Sweden in January 2002. Advanced Vocational Education involves the young person spending a third of his or her time in applying advanced theoretical knowledge at the workplace. This is not simply a traditional training period, but a time for active workplace learning and problem solving in a context which is, overall, educational. Courses are three years long and based on close co-operation between organisations and course providers. The courses are designed to meet real needs in the employment market.
