Campaigners call for an agency to promote linguistic diversity

The European Bureau of Lesser-Used Languages has called on the EU to create an organization responsible for promoting linguistic diversity and language learning. Such an organization, the bureau believes, could be modelled on the European Monitoring Centre for Racism and Xenophobia. The bureau notes that the importance of lesser-used languages will grow with the EU's forthcoming enlargement. It calls on all EU member states to ratify the European Charter on Regional and Minority Languages and to implement it.
