New learning technologies database will help teachers to become ILT-literate

A database of staff-development events and courses in information and learning technologies (ILT) for teachers and lecturers was launched at a conference organized by the National Information and Learning Technology Association (NILTA). Set up by the Learning and Skills Development Agency's ILT team, the database provides a one-stop shop for information about staff-development events for ILT.

In the first phase of development it will contain details of regional and national conferences, training courses and workshops to support ILT and e-learning, together with development opportunities for staff in colleges. The database has extensive search facilities including full keyword searches on theme or curriculum area, together with searches based on host organization, target audience, dates, venue and region. It contains outline details of events with Web links to further information and online booking facilities, where available.

Markos Tiris, of the Learning and Skills Development Agency, said: "The database will be a significant step forward, allowing staff to be able to find out what ILT staff-development events are available locally, regionally and nationally. The keyword-search facility means it will be much easier to find an event suited to a person's specific needs, where and when they want it. The database will also be invaluable in helping the National Learning Network (NLN) partners to develop a coherent approach to the ILT staff-development offer presented to the sector."

Phase one of the development involves mainly the core NLN partner events, but the intention is to extend the coverage to other relevant training providers. The database can be found at www.nln.ac.uk/events
