Leaders unite to help inner-city families

Family and youth workers have joined forces with head teachers to bring new opportunities to inner-city communities, thanks to a new professional-development programme. Developing Community Leadership is the first programme to support urban regeneration by helping community workers to build stronger links with schools. Some 20 London community leaders, including managers of family centres, youth projects, campaign groups, charities and extended-school centres, have completed the six-month programme. Run by the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) in partnership with the Community Action Network (CAN), it combines workshop sessions with an action project where participants pair up with a head or senior member of school staff to work on a joint community project.
