Magic.Sens from Bosch - an award-winning world first in fire detection

Keywords: Fire safety, Award

Magic.Sens from Bosch is the first fire detector to use gas detection technology, giving a quantum leap in detector performance, both for fast results and increased reliability against false alarms.

While traditional combined detectors sense the presence of heat and smoke, the Bosch Magic.Sens is unique because it also monitors fire gases. This factor adds an important third variable to give far greater reliability and, in some cases, a faster response time for the detector.

In a large installation such as an airport, which might have thousand of detectors, false alarms can create disruptive operating difficulties when several occur each day. Bosch is confident that Magic.Sens will offer around a hundred-fold reduction in false alarms over traditional multi sensors.

At the heart of the Magic.Sens is a tiny new chip containing a patented gas sensor array, which can be tuned to detect any number of different gases. This sensor is not only smaller and more reliable throughout its service life than existing detectors, it is also competitively priced and operates on a very low power consumption.

Bosch Telecom Gmbh secured a prestigious accolade at the International FIREX '99 when its Magic.Sens fire detection system was voted the overall winner of awards given at the show.
