London, 9 July 1999: Five top business people from the world of property and facilities management have been named Entrepreneurs of the Year, at banquets held by Ernst & Young in London and Leeds.

Tom Bloxham and Jonathan Falkingham, founders of Urban Splash, were named North region Young Entrepreneurs of the Year; Mark Dixon, executive chairman of Regus was London Business Services Entrepreneur of the Year; Paris Moayedi, chief executive of Jarvis plc, became London Turnaround Entrepreneur of the Year; and John Ritblat, chairman of The British Land Company plc was not only given the title Master Entrepreneur of the Year, but also overall London Entrepreneur of the Year.

David Wilkinson, UK National Head of Entrepreneurial Services for Ernst & Young said:

Through the Entrepreneur Of The Year programme, we and our co-sponsors The Citibank Private Bank and The Times, are turning the spotlight on the outstanding perromance of Britain's entrepreneurs. We had some 1,500 enquiries about the competition and we received more than 400 nominations.

The impressive standard of the entries just goes to show the vibrant state of the enterprise economy in this country.

Entrepreneur Of The Year is a major international award programme, rounded and produced by Ernst & Young and co-sponsored in the UK by The Citibank Private Bank and The Times. The awards are endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry; the British Chambers of Commerce; the Confederation for British Industry and the Institute of Directors.

The programme was created in 1986 by Ernst & Young in the USA, where it is now established as the pre-eminent awards scheme of its type. In 1999, the awards are taking place in 20 countries across five continents.

In the UK, there are five sets of regional winners from London, Scotland, the North, Central and South, who go through to a national final on 27 September, at London's Grosvenor House.

All recipients of Entrepreneur of the Year awards will be invited to join the exclusive International Entrepreneur of the Year Institute which provides the opportunity to meet and network with fellow entrepreneurs from around the world.

The Entrepreneur of the Year Institute organises an annual conference, which will be held in Palm Springs, from 11-14 November.
