BPG launches new survey software

Keywords Buildings, Facilities management, Software

Building Performance Group (BPG) is launching the latest version of its Survey Analysis Management System (SAM) software. SAM II now provides facilities managers with full numerical and graphical reports, enabling them to take a more strategic approach to maintenance decisions, saving time and money.

Developed in response to market demand for a more detailed account of survey information, this Windows-based software allows users to calculate specific forecast maintenance costs of housing stock. For example, if only 5 per cent of flat roofed houses are surveyed, then SAM II automatically extrapolates the figures to give the whole picture. Clients can then have an overview of the cost implications of repairs and refurbishment for their entire stock based on a quick scan of information.

Where the original system only gave cost reports, SAM II supplies a full numerical and graphical attribute reports, i.e. on those surveyed assets which have full central heating, slate roofs and asbestos, etc. So, reports are available at various levels by property, estate, the complete stock or other criteria such as property age band. Although the programme incorporates a great deal of competence and information, the system is not difficult to operate.

Richard Allard, associate director of BPG said:

Primarily SAM II is about cost-effective planning of maintenance and producing quality housing. However, a secondary function of this system is a comprehensive database of assets for stock transfers or assets evaluations of liabilities and, therefore, a tool to assist property owners with capital borrowing.

Another significant advantage of this software is that it can be utilised by the layman, as a detailed user guide is provided to each client. This gives step by step instructions on how the system works. Training is available by the experienced team of chartered building and quantity surveyors to small groups at various levels to explain the purpose of each feature of the software.
