Leading facilities management group provides cutting edge electronic delivery of financial and management data

Keywords Intranet, Performance measurement, Financial information

Workplace Management, the rapidly expanding facilities management division of Chesterton International plc, has launched its extensive new and sophisticated client IT systems and Intranet site.

The new Intranet site links the accounting, procurement and helpdesk systems and allows Workplace Management to meet increasing client demands for online electronic delivery of performance measurement and financial data. It is probably the most sophisticated service of its kind available in the industry.

Tim Diggens, IT manager comments:

We have now implemented this financial information service for several clients. Traditionally all financial information would have been mailed monthly or presented to the client; it is now being delivered via Intranet. Implementing this system has proven to be a more cost-effective and efficient way of delivering management reports, company procedures and document templates to both our clients and employees.

Workplace Management was previously known as Chesterton FM. The integration of this IT system represents part of the company's strategy to position itself as a leading and innovative FM company pioneering practical and efficient services.

The development and convergence of telecommunications and information technology is removing barriers to communication, the sharing of knowledge, access to information and deployment of skills.

David Walker, managing director of Workplace Management, comments:

Introducing secure and immediate access to financial reports for our individual clients using Web technology seemed to be the logical answer. The services offered are being enlarged constantly, and at our new premises, we have also introduced substantial new accounting technology allowing us to efficiently process over £100 million of costs per year on behalf of clients.

This new Intranet site also enables Workplace Management staff, who are deployed through out the UK on a wide range of client sites, to communicate more efficiently with each other.

The company manages around £100 million of facilities management services for companies including ICL, British Gas, British Airways, Cable and Wireless and BP. Client sites under management are typically 50,000-200,000 sq.ft with selected services on smaller sites. The brand of facilities management offered is based on open book accounting with core management disciplines in the areas of procurement, helpdesk, accounting, supplier management and health and safety.
