NACORE UK Chapter Meeting - getting the best out of property

Keywords: Property, Real estate

At a recent UK Chapter Meeting of the year, NACORE Europe UK members and guests were taken on a walk-round of Nabarro Nathanson's new offices in Theobalds Road, London WC1.

Host Geoffrey Lander, NACORE's vice president Europe and head of Nabarro's commercial property department, kicked off by explaining Nabarro's move from Stratton Street to Holborn. "We have a marvellous working environment. Everything is new and it has saved us the per annum per partner we would have spent had we remained in the West End and by saving on costs we are able to invest in the future."

Michael Evans, of Jonathan Edwards Consulting, who advised throughout, continued: "To meet Nabarro's financial objectives we set up a strategic model: looking at location, the type of building and the current use of space before we looked at any sites at all. Then 90 possible buildings were reviewed and immediately reduced to a choice of nine, from which Lacon House was chosen."

"By first setting up our model", comments Mick Bedford, then at DEGW, "and using it as a guide we were able to save time and, ultimately, on examining Nabarro's use of space, we found we were able to reduce the space occupied while improving the environment: larger floor plates and fewer floors make for better communal interreaction, so the new building will provide the means to a better service to clients."

Geoffrey Lander sums up: "Working through this process with the team has been a demonstration of everything I have learned by my membership of NACORE. My fellow members taught me that corporate property can be an active contributor to business success."

Nacore Intemational (the National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives) was set up to provide its members with educational and networking opportunities and aims to increase the awareness and understanding of corporate real estate.

Founded in the USA in 1974, NACORE International is the world's leading association for corporate real estate professionals with 60 Chapters worldwide and 3,600 members working in banks, retail and industry as well as service providers, academics and students, 215 of whom are in the UK.

In the UK NACORE holds bi-monthiy Chapter Meetings, each held in a different building, offering a talk on a subject of current interest and a chance to meet and exchange ideas with friends and colleagues from across the industry together with regional meetings across the UK.

NACORE UK's regional branches

The Thames Valley Regional Branch of NACORE UK celebrated its first year's existence with a Christmas party at Pillar Property's flagship development in Winnersh, Reading. Branch chairman Tim Caiger of Oracle welcomed 30 members and guests, congratulated his committee on their hard work and a successful programme of events and outlined the programme for the year 2000.

Other regional branches have been launched most recently in Scotland, also in the North, and the Midlands. These regional branches offer the opportunity for real estate executives to meet and exchange ideas locally; all members of NACORE UK are welcome at all branch events which further encourages the free flow of information.
