New system links council land and properties to digital maps

Keywords: Geographical information systems, Property

GGP Systems has developed a geographic property information to assist local authorities manage land and property assets. The PC Windows system is the result of joint development between GGP Systems and Logotech, supplier of asset and financial systems to local government.

GGP adds digital mapping and comprehensive geographic analysis functions to Logotech's systems, including Terrarius and Asset Register. Existing land and property database records are linked to digital maps, photographs and document images. Users can immediately match records to map locations, view sites on-screen and get instantaneous access to associated information.

Terrarius provides comprehensive facilities for managing council land and properties. Using GGP, geographic searches can be performed to look at the location and distribution of properties by different criteria such as value, tenure, rents and usage, as well as by maintenance-related aspects such as condition and scheduled maintenance periods. Logotech's Asset Register, which provides information on life, valuations and utilisation of council assets, also benefits from GGP to search and locate.

GGP is designed for easy integration with the many different types of systems used within local authorities. Using technology such as Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), functions such as plotting maps or querying and updating records can be embedded in "host" systems.
