Will your health and safety assessments stand scrutiny

Poor attention to health and safety costs money. The latest calculations from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) estimate accidents cost British business over £18 billion per annum. In addition, by computing the 1.6 million workplace injuries and the 2.1 million cases of work-related ill health each year with the working population, one in seven employees in the UK is affected each year.

Although certain types of business and organisation may, by their nature, be more prone to health and safety problems, every single one must conduct appropriate risk assessments. Those with five or more employees must document their findings, necessitating a suitable system to be in place. Not only are risk assessments a legal requirement, more and more insurance companies are insisting on proper systems to maintain cover. They may also reduce premiums where they see that assessments have been conducted satisfactorily.

HaSARD can help

HaSARD Manager is a simple to use software system that makes the completion (and more) of appropriate risk assessments so much easier. Windows based and with a logical, built-in question and answer format, the program leads the user through each step of the process. HaSARD Manager also includes many other useful features such as customisability, document management and a smooth upgrade potential to suit a user's own circumstances.

Should further information or advice be required on any related subject, including health and safety requirements and legislation, then this is immediately available from a comprehensive, indexed database of knowledge stored within the program. Indeed, over 800 pages of such information can be directly accessed to answer the vast majority of questions that are likely to arise.

Those appointed to the position of health and safety officer or competent person, can check the status of their current arrangements and assessments by taking the HaSARD quiz. This is contained on a CD together with a demonstration of HaSARD Manager and the offer of a free, no-obligation trial of the software.

Although the HaSARD Manager system is very easy to implement and use, further assistance is available. The services of a consultant can be provided to assist with the set-up of your own risk assessments and management of the action plans created.
