What's on the web

www.citehr.com

CiteHR is a “fun resource board dedicated to Human Resource Professionals, Consultants and Students”. This forum is maintained to foster the exchange of ideas and community support. CiteHR helps all those in the HR world keep up to date with industry practices and offers an easy interface for networking.

This is not, we suspect, an American or British site judging by the use of language and the fact that many online contributors mention Bangalore. Also, an interesting statistic box at the end tells you how many users are on-line at any time. The greatest number of users ever online was 265 on Saturday December 25, 2004 – at lunchtime.

There are some useful resources, however, and the site is easy to navigate with good hyperlinks. There are even some surprisingly good jokes! You do have to register but membership is free.

Simple solutions

www.humanresources.about.com

Anyone handling day-to-day human resources challenges will appreciate the range of articles, links, discussion boards, and expert advice located at the About.com Human Resources centre. The web site includes a number of original articles as well as links to other HR tips and commentary located around the web. You will probably find the solution to most HR dilemmas (or a link to it) here, but drilling down to what you need can be a bit overwhelming with over 25 subjects to choose from. Topics range from training and benefits to legal issues and labor relations. Visitors can also visit the bulletin boards and chat rooms to pick the brains of other HR managers.

This is an American site (though some of the adverts target a British audience), but there is lots of good stuff here for people of all nationalities. We particularly liked the informative but relaxed style – here is a sample from a piece on management systems: ”Managers perennially ask why employees don’t do what they are supposed to do. While part of the responsibility falls on choices individual employees make, managers need to shoulder part of the blame, too. Employees want to succeed at work. I don’t know a single person who gets up in the morning and says, ‘I think I’ll go to work to fail today’.”

Jobsearch

www.joslinrowe.com/hr

Joslin Rowe claims to be the UK and Ireland’s leading professional recruitment agency recruiting into permanent, temporary and contract jobs. Their Human Resources division recruits across London and the South East, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin helping HR professionals to find new HR jobs “within the key areas of Recruitment, Generalist (whatever that means), Training & Development, Compensation & Benefits, International HR and HR systems.”

As should be expected, the site is stylish and fast – the browse section is particularly useful.
