Big is beautiful

Big is beautifulwww.ceridian.co.uk

“Ceridian is one of the world’s most-trusted human resources service providers, globally serving more than 25 million employees”. So claims the opening statement on this website.

It has an excellent layout, with clean lines and a simple format. The content, too, is well worth looking at. Information regarding the company, what they do and how they could be beneficial to another business is supplied in abundance. All of the products and services they offer are listed, along with coming events and news about the company. A free newsletter is produced although one must register for this; the sign up page for the newsletter gives the option of specifying which areas are of particular interest to you, in order to prevent one from receiving irrelevant information. Their client list is stretched across a number of different industries, with some high profile previous clients. Brochures and papers are available to download if required. The main services on offer are strategic HR consultancy, integrated HR and payroll software, employee self-service portals and employee assistance programs.

All in all this is a great website, inspiring confidence in their ability to provide a professional service.

Write onwww.ehandwritinganalysis.com

Glenda Ross is a handwriting analyst who provides a service for businesses recruiting new employees. This may seem a very odd approach to dealing with staffing matters but apparently some people swear by it. The concept of handwriting analysis is that one can learn a lot about a person’s character and personality through their handwriting, and that a potential employee’s suitability for the job can be assessed through this means. We are really not too sure about the reliability of this method, but the website itself is set out well and easy to navigate.

The information provided on the site is also good, with some background history regarding handwriting analysis, as well as detail about the actual services that are on offer. Take a look and see what you think!

Leading peoplewww.shrm.org

“The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management”. The website is packed with information about the society and the work it does. In addition news articles, legal and career information, a glossary of terms, FAQs, and research reports are provided on the site, along with many other features. The site is set out well and simple to use with easy to follow links and good visual aids. Webcasts are available for download and an e-newsletter can be sent out if requested. Much of the information provided on the site relates to fairly generic human resource practices rather than being about the company itself.

As an American company much of the information is geared towards American human resource issues, especially the legal advice. Since the site claims that SHRM currently has more than 550 affiliated chapters and members in more than 100 countries this is perhaps a narrow view. However, enough information is provided on the site to make it worthwhile viewing for anyone needing HR information.

Mostly goodwww.rhhr.com

The website of this HR outsourcing company is quite minimal and simplistic. The first impression the site gives may be a little misleading though, as the information provided about the services this company offers is extensive. As well as giving plenty of information regarding the company itself the website also contains press releases and news “hot topics”. The occasional small typographical error in some of the information given lessens the initial good impression somewhat.

The company offers tailor-made HR packages aimed at small to medium businesses with services such as training and development, employee relations, compensation and benefits, recruitment, and employee records/administration. Their brochure can be downloaded in PDF format if one prefers to look at information in print. Overall this site is particularly good and certainly worth taking a look at, particularly the free HR “health check”.

Heroic HRwww.rhhr.com

In spite of its slightly over-the-top name, this American website offers good information and advice regarding employment legal matters. Although the appearance of the site may seem a little overcrowded the information and articles more than make up for this. There is a discussion forum provided, along with a catalogue of law letters, and a site search engine. The news articles are extensive and varied and “tips of the week” are given. An audio conference service is offered, along with various other seminars and workshops. Some of the blogs on the site are also worth reading, although like all blog sites there are irrelevant pieces alongside the useful information. A variety of newsletters are available to subscribe to; there is a charge for these however. For anyone with business interests in America this site could prove to be very useful for others there is still much of interest.

And finally

A survey conducted by training consultant DDI, who polled 600 managers, found that promotion causes as much stress as a divorce.

The survey also found up to half of surveyed managers were unable to cope with the extra work required to maintain their promoted position since they had risen from their junior position
