Purpose – Reviews how to handle the outsourcing of human resource tasks. Design/methodology/approach – Sets out a series of questions to ask to make sure that outsourcing is the right option; gives an overview of the market for outsourcing in Europe; discusses how to select an outsourcing partner; and describes the tasks that are most frequently outsourced. Findings – Argues that outsourcing human resource tasks can generate real value for the human resource function, underlining that it an opportunity rather than a threat.
