Purpose – describes how ?What If!, a UK innovation company has developed an organizational culture that encourages informality and creativity while also making sure that the company is highly profitable. Design/methodology/approach – discusses with the founders of ?What-If! about the challenge of maintaining the company’s creativity and ability to innovate as it gets bigger, describing how the organizational structure and its human resource practices support this. Draws out lessons for other organizations that want to develop an innovative culture. Findings – stresses that the company is focused on its financial performance as well as its creative performance. Highlights that the values of the organization remain unchanged at the core of the organization but that everything else, including the management structure, is open to change as circumstances require.
