Executives galore

www.executivesonline.co.uk

This site is a one-stop shop for any and all types of senior professional, for almost any role it appears. From interim, permanent and project management, to executive recruitment of MDs, CEOs and all other manner of director and senior post, Executives Online provide them all. They can work fast, too, with a pre-vetted, global talent bank of over 40,000 potential candidates waiting to be matched to a job specification. Human resources management is covered in the “Focus Area” section, listing ten different “Focus Areas”. The site is easy to use and easy to read. Information is factual, minimal and clear. A site worth a look, whether you are after staff, looking for another job, or just seeing who and what might be out there.

Maverick attack

www.maverickhr.co.uk

In today’s world of same, same, same, any web site linked to business with the word “maverick” in the title is worth a look. After all, we all like a maverick from time to time and “maverick hr” has an interesting ring to it. It turns out that Maverick HR is a recruitment agency. A high end one judging by the London address and slick, carefully constructed and worded, ultra-professional web site, but a recruitment agency all the same. Is there a new trend emerging, with high level, specialist work becoming increasingly about human resource departments and head hunting recruitment agencies working closely together to find the right person for fixed and short-term contracts? Who knows, and maybe Maverick HR are worth checking out to see if they can actually supply the type of candidate they claim to have on their books. One thing’s for sure – the recruitment industry is muscling in on the human resources moniker.

Healthy blogging

http://blogs.openaccesscentral.com/blogs/hrhblog

Blogging has been around long enough now for the majority of people with any sort of ICT skills, knowledge and practical experience to be aware of its existence and what it is all about. This blog is the brainchild of an organization known as, “Human Resources for Health (HRH)”, and it is where they have chosen to launch their first quarterly journal. In collaboration with “Management Sciences for Health (MSH)”, the first edition features the theme of “public health leadership and management”. The site claims to be an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal covering all aspects of planning, producing and managing the health of the workforce. HRH are a serious sounding and thorough feeling set-up, and this site is well worth exploring if you are in any way interested in issues surrounding health and the workforce.

Charity HR

www.freetocharities.org.uk/phrdo

It is amazing sometimes what can come up when you type “human resources” into an online search engine. This little gem, supplied via a “free to charities” scheme, is the site of an organization called PHRDO. PHRDO is a not-for-profit organization based in Pakistan that aims to reduce the poverty of disadvantaged people, especially deprived women, through technical education, skill development and vocational training. The acronym itself stands for “Pak Human Resources Development Organization”, hence the HR link. The site is basic and dry, but the cause is noble and fruitful. For any time-served, experienced and learned HR professionals out there, who have been thinking about “giving something back” to a less advantaged, and most likely more appreciative, charity organization, this site could just be worth a look. The link “Assistance Sought” may be of particular interest.

Happiness, happiness

www.happiness.co.uk

If work is a place where you find yourself laughing less and less, if at all, then this is the web site for you. It is what it tells you it is in its URL: happiness. The site is the online forum for the “Happiness Project”, led by the project’s director, Dr Robert Holden. Dr Holden is described as being a pioneer in the field of positive psychology and well-being. Excusing the cheap play on words for a laugh, these guys are serious about happiness. The Doctor director is himself quoted as saying, “Laughter is a state of mind. It is victory over fear. It is an affirmation – a great big ‘yes’ for celebrating life.” Their seminars are open to all and attended by dedicated people who aspire to greater happiness and success in their life, work and relationships. With a 40-minute BBC documentary made about them in 1996, and now seen by over 30 million viewers in 16 countries, the Happiness Project is certainly attracting attention.

And finally

Jeff Taylor, founder of Monster.com (the world’s biggest online job-search site), left the University of Massachusetts after five-and-a-half years without a degree. He then worked as a disc jockey in Boston nightclubs before starting a recruiting agency (Adion) in 1989. After venturing into online recruitment, the adventurous Taylor managed to instill a sense of youthful fun and anti-establishment zest into the business. On one occasion, for example, Taylor persuaded attendees at a conference organized by America’s Department of Labor to yell “We rock!” at every mention of “human resources”.
