Kent Council targets young people

Purpose – describes the approach that Kent Council (UK local government authority) is taking to recruiting more younger people to work for it. Design/methodology/approach – sets out the changes that the local authority has made to its recruitment systems, including its programme to set up additional apprenticeships, the gap year employment it offers to young people who are about to go to university, its graduate programme and the work experience placements that it has set up. Also explains the systems that have set up to retain and support younger employees. Lastly, describes the website that has been developed to ensure that young people know about vacancies and other opportunities at the council. Findings – cites Kent as taking a proactive approach to redressing the age balance of its workforce to include a larger number of younger people.
