Fast-growing business invests in people power

Article Type: Notes and news From: Industrial and Commercial Training, Volume 42, Issue 3

An insurance company that has doubled its business in the past year has launched its own apprenticeship academy to help to ensure that it delivers high levels of service to insurers, brokers and policyholders.

ONE Group academy offers employees the chance to develop their careers from administrators through to fully trained customer-service advisors, assistance co-ordinators, claim handlers and team leaders by completing a series of work-based training courses and assessments. The courses are designed specifically for each employee’s needs and offer nationally recognized qualifications.

Judi Hoal, head of the operational-support unit at ONE Group, said: “As a specialist insurance, claims-service and assistance provider, we put serious investment into developing the skills and quality of our staff, not only to enhance service standards but also to create a happy, confident and motivated team of people who understand the importance of their position in our business.”

Academy courses cover management and leadership, business and administration, customer service, sales and team leadership. As well as providing a career path for new starters, the academy gives existing employees the chance to improve their skills.

Judi Hoal concluded: “Giving our people the opportunity to grow and develop their career is a key priority for our business; it pays dividends in terms of service delivery and staff retention, which has been a big challenge for the insurance sector. Empowering our people through the academy will help us to create the right culture, providing firm foundations for our continued growth.”
