Anglia Polytechnic University (APU) in the UK is offering a contemporary new degree in its School of Healthcare Practice. The course, starting in September 2001, leads to a BSc (Hons) in Complementary Medicine. The University already offers modules of study relating to complementary medicine, such as aromatherapy, massage and flexology, and these attract a wide range of people including nurses, midwives and non-health care practitioners. It has developed excellent links with the external awarding bodies in complementary medicine, and these links combined with its success in clinical subjects have led to the development of this new and highly innovative degree based course. Successful completion of the degree course ensures that students not only achieve the academic standards required but also achieve the specific professional requirements of the Institute of Complementary Medicine (ICM).
