Libya - Libya to recruit 1,000 doctors and 1,000 nurses from Sri Lanka

Libya has come forward to recruit immediately 1,000 doctors and 1,000 nurses from Sri Lanka. Recently Libya and Sri Lanka entered into a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the manpower requirements from Sri Lanka to Libya.

This Memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka by Dr Keheliya Rambukawella, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare and on behalf of the Libyan Government, by its Minister of Employment, Dr Martook Mohamed Martook, who was in Sri Lanka recently with a government delegation.

Dr Keheliya Rambukawella explaining to Asian Tribune said that the MOU with the Libyan Minister has been entered into three sectors.

The first one deals with Health sector, where the Libyan Minister indicated their urgent requirements of the Doctors and Nurses to man their hospitals. Also the Libyan Minister has indicated their requirements for paramedics and details will be worked out soon according to the Sri Lanka Minister. The second is the hospitality sector and the third is the education sector.

The Sri Lankan Minister, Dr Keheliya Rambukawella, said that Dr Martook Mohamed Martook, who is Minister of Employment as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Libya, when he met President Mahinda Rajapakse recently, had invited the Sri Lankan President to make an official visit to Libya.

It is learnt that the Sri Lanka President has accepted the invitation to visit Libya.

Dr Keheliya Rambukawella said that both governments are now working out the modalities connected with official visit of the President of Sri Lanka. He stated that the visit might take place in the first quarter of the 2009.
