Kuwait - Nurses demand more pay, better working conditions

“If Civil Service Commission (CSC) does not revise the salary scales of nurses and does not accept all their demands this year, the Kuwait Nursing Association will have no choice but to approach the Prime Minister,” Secretary of the association and founder of Arab Nurses Union Abdulaziz Al-Enezi told Al-Wasat Daily. About 800 Kuwaiti nurses, including male and female, will benefit from a pay-scale revision. Claiming that local, Gulf and Arab organizations support demands of Kuwaiti nurses, Al-Enezi said “if everything else fails, perhaps strikes will do the needful.”
He added that the association supports the demands of Bedoun nurses and said appointing Bedouns is better than bringing in expatriates. Al-Enezi criticized the Ministry of Health Ministry of Health Loading for not accepting nurses’ demands like having weekend holiday and dangerous job allowance and said due to such attitude about 300 nurses resign from ministry hospitals every year. He warned against privatizing the nursing sector in the ministry, saying he can expose the names of people involved in granting licenses to private nursing companies.
Meanwhile, several doctors working for the Ministry of Health Ministry of Health Loading plan to file a lawsuit against two of their colleagues who have talked about medical errors at the Adan Hospital, reports Al-Jarida daily.
According to the Daily the doctors have expressed their surprise because their colleagues have publicly given out information that might cause harm to the medical body. Medical sources added these doctors have personal ambitions because they have reportedly said they have evidence about medical errors said to have been committed since 1996. The sources wonder why the doctors have remained silent all this time. Knowledgeable sources at the Ministry of Health Ministry of Health Loading have said an investigation committee has been formed and a report is expected to be submitted to the Public Prosecution and to the parliamentary committee.
