The importance of nursing in the success of medical treatment has been underlined at a function to mark Gulf Nursing Day.

“The success of health services in any hospital or health facility is dependent on the level of nursing”, Director of the Maternity and Children’s Hospital in Jeddah Dr Kemal Abu Rakba said while addressing a meeting organized by the hospital’s nursing department.

Abu Rakba commended the efforts of the nursing department, particularly a training program for Saudi women in collaboration with the Nursing Administration at the Health Directorate. He also noted that the training program contributed to the success of “Saudising” nursing departments in various health establishments. He stressed the need for more Saudi nurses.

The event also included a number of lectures, including on how to breastfeed babies and maintain a healthy diet for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and children.

“The celebration of the day also aims at creating awareness among others about the significance of nursing on the one hand and highlighting the role of specialist nursing on the other”, Director of the hospital’s Nursing Department Fatima Al-Qahtani said.

Al-Qahtani said the new emphasis on specialized nursing allows nurses to acquire skills tailored to the particular field of nursing he or she is interested in.

Functions to mark the occasion were also organized in Makkah.
