Article Type: Forthcoming project management events and links From: International Journal of Managing Projects in Business, Volume 2, Issue 4

The “Making projects critical”, 5th international workshop on critical studies of project based work, project management and the projectification of society and life at large will be held on January 21-22, 2010, Bristol, UK. A key concern of this workshop is to employ critical perspectives to analyse and evaluate the practice of project management and decision making as evidenced in the approval, governance and control of project work and project workers. The inaugural Asia Pacific Research Conference on Project Management will be held at Monash University, Melbourne Australia on February 25-26, 2010 with a Doctoral Consortium being held on the February 24. Happy projects! is an international conference annually held in Vienna for practitioners, researchers and students. The happy projects '09 was held on the topic “Projects and change” and will be organized in June 2010. As part of the happy projects conference, www.happyprojects.at/index.php?id=593&L=2, there is also an international student paper award held. The call for the student paper award will be out on their conference web site.

The IPMA held its 23rd IPMA World Congress in Helsinki, Finland from June 15-17, 2009. Go to URL: www.refresh09.com/&from=banner for details. There is a scientific papers section with a special issue of selected papers from that conference to appear in Volume 3 in 2010. This is an annual conference so look out for the 2010 one.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) research conference is held every two years (even years) in 2004 it was held in London, in 2006 in Montreal and in July 2008 in Warsaw, Poland. It is to be held in Washington, DC in 2010 so keep posted. Readers may be interested in PMI regional congresses and events they can access this through the PMI web site (www.pmi.org/Pages/Calendar.aspx), the PMI regional conferences are global so that for example in 2007 there was one in San Paulo, Brazil, Cancun Mexico, Wellington New Zealand. The calendar web link, however, provides details only month by month so it can be somewhat time consuming to find out what is on where, at what time.

The 4th Conference of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Project Management will be held at Bournemouth University in September 2010. The timescale is as follows:

  • Complete initial papers to arrive by January 8, 2010.

  • Please send to Dr Roger Atkinson at: rogeratkinson@bournemouth.ac.uk

  • Reviewer comments will be returned to the lead author by April 2, 2010.

  • Final papers are to arrive by July 2, 2010 selected papers from the conference will be considered for a special issue of the International Journal of Project Management by Elsevier. Contact Dr Roger Atkinson for more details.
