Community without wires

Probably the world’s first truly wireless community – Helsinki Virtual Village – is currently being developed in the Finnish region of Arabianranta.

Nokia Internet Communications is providing the Internet security foundation for the Virtual Village, which represents the most ambitious use of mobile technology to date. More than 12,000 residents, 9,000 employees and 6,000 local university students will live in the mobile community by 2010.

“The creation of a controlled and secure environment that scales for future needs is one of the biggest challenges we faced in creating Helsinki Virtual Village”, said Kari Raina, Managing Director of Art and Design City Helsinki Oy Ab.
