The Alcatel 8607 A-GPS (assisted global positioning system) Positioning Server for GSM Networks is now available. By providing A-GPS capabilities, the Alcatel 8607 Positioning Server supports the mass-market adoption and success of advanced high-accuracy location based services (LBS).

The A-GPS location server solution for GSM is compatible with Qualcomm’s location solutions. This collaboration positions both companies as market leaders in A-GPS to implement new open mobile alliance (OMA) LBS standards activities associated with A-GPS technologies.

Alcatel also is expanding its A-GPS pre-launch assistance program, which helps service providers shorten their time to revenue, improve their cost-effectiveness and ensure the quality of their A-GPS location based services. Alcatel’s A-GPS pre-launch assistance program consists of two main components. The first is the A-GPS pre-launch workshop that enables service providers to identify their needs when implementing A-GPS positioning and helps them choose the most feasible deployment path. The second is A-GPS pre-launch trial assistance, which includes project planning, analysis, documentation, implementation and testing – all of which are completed in a joint project between Alcatel and the operator.
