Should we protect?

Protectionism has been a contentious issues over the last several months – should we or should we not ask many nations. Well, in productivity terms protectionism is almost always bad … and therefore it is in economic terms. Another example came recently from Australia which bans the import of overseas books. The Productivity commission has recently pointed out that, as a result, Australians pay far more for books than those living elsewhere.
