I am very pleased to welcome two new Co-editors to the Editorial Team of the International Journal of Public Sector Management (IJPSM) this year – Dr Mike Rowe of Liverpool School of Management, University of Liverpool, UK and Dr Amanda Smith, of the Geography Department at Nottingham Trent University, UK.

Mike was a civil servant in the UK Department of Social Security before taking up research at Nottingham Trent University as an NAO Research Fellow. His research interests are in issues of public accountability, particularly in services delivered to the most vulnerable, but also in the context of partnerships in inner-city regeneration. He moved to Liverpool University where he now acts as Programme Director for the Masters’ in Public Administration.

Amanda works at Nottingham Trent University, having completed a PhD at the University of Durham that explored the social constructions of sustainability within coalfield regeneration policies. Her more recent research has developed to include an examination of the delivery of sustainable development via local area agreements; regionalisation of waste planning, and regenerating city reputations. Amanda is developing an exciting new Masters’ Degree Programme on Human Security and Environmental Change to commence in 2008-2009.

Mike and Amanda are joining myself and Dr Jon Coaffee of the University of Manchester, who I would like to thank also for his sterling work as joint book review editor over the past two years. In addition, we have strengthened the journal by attracting a number of highly capable and talented new editorial board members, and are fortunate indeed to have them as part of the team.

Welcome and thanks to every one of our new team, and I look forward positively to the next phase of the journal’s development as we build on past successes, and seek further opportunities to engage with academics, policy makers and practitioners across the globe. Our aim is to continue to make a substantial contribution to on-going dialogues, discussions and debates within this significant field of enquiry, and to provide supportive and enlightened forums for co-production of new knowledge. Undoubtedly as multi-dimensional arenas of public, private voluntary, civic and third sectors of governance become ever more closely entwined, individuals will face greater challenges as they seek solutions to multi-faceted and seemingly, intractable problems, old and new. The IJPSM will serve as an important “Agora” or open space to air, and exchange, exemplars of best theory and practice with the overall purpose of enhancing organisational and societal transformation.
