Abstract

The aim of this paper is to point out some errors in the example given by Chang and Sun (2009).

The following errors have been found:

  1. 1.

Page 640, Table V, run the DEA EXCEL SOLVER software, it is found that the value of O from CCR slack of failure mode 2 should have been 0, and all the values of S, O, and D from CCR AR slack of the all failure modes should have been 0 (Cooper et al., 2000). The corrected table is as shown in Table V.

  2. 2.

Page 640, Table VI, per the definition of DEA CCR model, the weighted matrix multiplied by the original input matrix should have been equal to the matrix of 1. However, the values shown in Table VI in the original paper do not have such property, i.e. the weighted matrix multiplication by the original input matrix is not equal to the matrix of 1:

Using the DEA EXCEL SOLVER software, it is found that the weighting of SOD from CCR AR should have been corrected as shown in Table VI. The above-mentioned property holds should the corrected values be used:

These conditions do not satisfy what is required in the definition given by Chang and Sun (2009) and Cooper et al. (2000).

The corrected table is as shown in Table VI.
