In this spring issue of Retail Insights Randi Priluck discusses the concept of online bidding pioneered by Priceline.com in the USA. She outlines how Priceline.com may affect existing marketing channels although it should be noted that the company has experienced financial difficulties in the latter part of 2000. To complement the article we have a selection of abstracts on pricing.
In addition, we have an in-depth retail report on "global commerce Internet protocol". This is the first work of the Global Commerce Initiative, a voluntary joint effort between consumer product retailers and manufacturers and international standards bodies. It makes recommendations on the management of standardised information across Exchanges and other business-to-business communications via the Internet.
