Welcome to another issue of IJSHE. In this editorial I would like to discuss the new “United Nations Alliance on Climate Change Education, Training and Public Awareness”, which was launched at COP 18 in Qatar in December 2012. The Alliance was launched in support of the newly established Doha work programme on Article 6 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Alliance will showcase examples of successful cooperation on climate education, training and public awareness activities. Since climate issues are part of the overall sustainability debate, it seems topical that universities may pay a stronger emphasis to climate issues, as part of their programmes.

In particular, both in respect of research and teaching, but also in terms of curriculum greening, tackling matters related to climate change is important, since energy conservation or reduction in wastes automatically lead to less CO2 emissions and contribute to climate mitigation.
