Keywords: Coatings, Non-stick

There is a great demand for non-stick coatings like Teflon, particularly when they are also scratch and wear resistant. They are required to coat tools and components in the plastics industry, as well as machine parts employed in food processing. The coating ensures that nothing adheres to the stamping die or mould. On behalf of Bayer AG, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Thin Films and Surface Engineering (IST) in Brunswick have developed a special plasma-polymer hard coating for aspirin tableting machines. Further potential applications include cooking appliances, forced condensation heat exchangers, and anti-fouling coatings.
