Communication through the vortex new VORFLO vortex flowmeter with HART protocol

Keyword: Flowmeters

Danfoss Limited has launched a new generation of VORFLO vortex flowmeters containing the HART communication protocol fitted as standard, significantly simplifying data transfer and commissioning. The new range is designed for use in power plants and in the food, chemical and petrochemical industries.

Principally VORFLO flowmeters measure steam, gases and low viscosity liquids. All VORFLO vortex flowmeters are fully welded to eradicate many of the problems caused by wear and tear, and can be easily serviced under operating conditions. Importantly, all the electrical parts can be changed in situ without shutting down or interrupting the flow.

All the electrical parts, including the piezoelectric crystal sensor, are mounted outside the pipe, making sensor replacement quick, simple and safe without the need to shut down the process.

VORFLO has the industry's first fully welded sensor construction and has no gasketed joints between the crystal and the "pick-up", ensuring line gas and invisible high temperature steam is unable to leak.

The flowmeters have an operating temperature range between 40oC and +400oC at pressures up to 100 bar. Having no moving parts and powered by a standard two wire 4-30mA, 24V transmitter, the flowmeters are rugged, reliable and simple to install and operate.

Accuracy of measurement is to within ±0.7 per cent with liquids and ±1.25 per cent with gas/steam, and repeatability is ±0.15 per cent of actual flow. VORFLO meters have a wide turn down of up to 25:1, ensuring the highest accuracy standards are maintained. Additionally, the units include a software filter that eliminates potential inaccuracies caused by pump or pipe noise.

VORFLO measures steam, gas and light viscosity liquids and EEx d 1b IIC certificated variants are available for use in hazardous areas. These units can be programmed using a special magnetic pen to avoid having to remove the signal converter cover in hazardous applications.

VORFLO flowmeters are available in AISI 316 stainless steel, Hastelloy C and Carbon Steel ST35, in ten sixes for pipes with diameters from 15mm to 300mm.

A dual sensor and signal converter is available for maximum reliability as well as a flow computer for saturated and superheated steam.

The units are controlled by the proven menu-driven microprocessors that provide a display of both flow rate and total flow over a set period. The signal converter is mounted in a lP65 rated enclosure that can be mounted up to 300m away from the measuring pipe to cut down exposure to excess heat.

VORFLO flowmeters can be installed at most points in the manufacturing process, with the meter orientated in any position on the pipe.

Danfoss is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of flow measurement devices. It has four principal ranges: MAGFLO electromagnetic flowmeters, MASSFLO Coriolis mass flowmeters, VORFLO vortex flowmeters and SONOFLO time of flight flowmeters. These products are supported by EVITA oxygen meters.
