On 10 July 1998 in Beijing, Exxon Chemical Eastern Inc. and Jinzhou Petrochemical Co. signed a contract for a joint venture to revamp the existing Jinzhou facilities to make international quality lube oil additives. The project will be a 50/50 joint venture between the partners. Construction is expected to begin during 1998 after the required government approvals are granted.

Exxon technology will primarily be used in the additives plant. Products will be mainly marketed in China to meet the increasing domestic demand. The additives will bear Exxon's Paramins brandname.

In 1995, the two partners formed the joint venture Jinzhou Jinex Lubricant Additive Co. Ltd. Operation of the plant started a year later, producing lubricant additives of international standard, including detergent inhibitor packages and viscosity modifiers that improve the characteristics of high-performance lubricants.

Jinzhou Petrochemical is one of China's largest manufacturers of lubricant additives with more than 30 years of research and development experience. Its production capacity and sales volume account for a significant share of the domestic market. It operates one of the nation's major petrochemical complexes, and has an extensive domestic market network.

Exxon Chemical Company, a division of Exxon Corporation, is a major, global producer and supplier of a wide range of petrochemicals, including additives produced by the company's Paramins division for lubricants and other petroleum products. Paramins is a pioneer and innovator in additives technology with an integrated, worldwide network including Asia Pacific plants in Japan and Singapore.
