New easy-to-maintain coalescer from Master Chemical Europe

If a customer's coolant management needs exceed the capabilities of a simple skimmer but do not necessitate investment in a sophisticated high speed disc bowl centrifuge, a solution is at hand with the new Master Coalescer from Master Chemical Europe (see Plate 7). While the general coalescing concept is not new, the design of this unit is a significant development.

The coalescing process involves passing tramp oil over special oleophilic media. This results in droplets of oil floating to the top of the tank releasing any metal fines which may be in suspension. These solids then settle on the bottom of the tank. Traditionally, this is where problems arise as this metal sludge is deprived of any oxygen by the layer of oil and becomes a breeding ground for anaerobic bacteria. Accordingly, all coalescers must be subject to regular maintenance but few systems are designed for that purpose.

The new Master Coalescer is constructed so that the entire coalescing assembly can be easily removed allowing the oleophilic plates and the tank itself to be cleaned. Not only does this deliver better quality coolant, but it also eliminates any health and safety risk. The Coalescer can be dedicated to a machine or used as a mobile coolant management station.
