New infrared system for online monitoring and control

Keyword: FLIR Systems International

At the Automation, Production and Maintenance Equipment '98, Birmingham, FLIR Systems International (FSI) exhibited new products for the automation industry including ThermoVision, an uncooled thermal imaging camera for online monitoring of temperature in process control industries.

Typical applications for the new system will include online inspection of manufacturing processes within the automotive, paper, plastics, steel, glass and food and packaging industries.

Used in conjunction with visible light machine vision systems, ThermoVision is claimed to provide additional information on the surface characteristics of a product to help customers make more accurate production decisions. The system can also be used as a stand-alone unit in situations where only temperature related data are required.

FSI will also be showing XCaliper, an enhanced version of its industry-leading software for automated machine vision systems and software-driven industrial sensors that rely on high-speed optical character recognition (OCR) and robotic guidance.

In conjunction with the above products, FSI includes the AGEMA 570, the first uncooled infrared measurement camera for applications in infrared condition monitoring. Claimed to be ideal for inspecting electrical and mechanical components, as well as refractory materials and steam systems, this new technology offers a number of significant benefits over other infrared cameras whose detectors require cooling.

FLIR Systems International and its group of companies designs, manufactures and markets imaging systems worldwide for a variety of applications. FSI night-vision products are used in such diverse applications as public safety, defence, navigation and environmental protection. Commercial products include airborne broadcast imaging, condition monitoring, non-destructive testing, research and development and online manufacturing process control.
