Metering flow in full pipelines with electromagnetic technology is widely adopted by many industries. But metering partial flow requires specialist knowledge and a new generation of meter ­ Parti-Mag.

Capable of measuring flow rate at only 10 per cent of the full pipe capacity and with an accuracy of 2 per cent, Parti-Mag utilises a revolutionary electromagnetic technology developed by the Fischer and Porter engineers in Göttingen, Germany. Four electrode pairs with an optimised weighted signal potential are arranged within the flow channel to detect the velocity and level of the liquid. This approach is unaffected by submerged (layered) flow.

The new Parti-Mag is claimed to be far in advance of existing metering systems due to its high degree of user friendliness, wide flow ranges and high accuracy. Combined with the advantages of metering without inverts, no on-site calibration, and low maintenance, Parti-Mag is proving an attractive solution in multiple applications.

A key market for the system is the water and waste water industries. As a replacement for flumes and weirs, a principle historically prone to silting, the resultant less accurate measurement from conventional devices is unavoidable. As Parti-Mag requires only short straight sections and with no moving parts or restrictions located in the meter, measurement is effective and accurate in subcritical flow.
