The evidence of Hepco Slide Systems' commitment to the development of new products was clearly demonstrated on the company's main stand at the recent Design Engineering Show of the Manufacturing Week Exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham. The Factored Products Division of the organisation introduced a wide range of new and complementary engineering products, including ball bushings, super high load linear bearings, screw jacks, angle gear drives, frame building systems and self-lubricating plain bearings.

Hepco also launched the latest range of ASK ball bushing units, which were available in five versions, at Manufacturing Week. Standard ball bushings were in long or short types, with precision bearings and plastic retainers. These were competitively priced and interchangeable with many other makes. In addition there were short and long flanged versions with various flange designs, flanged housings and linear case housings. The Winkel range of combined bearings and profile rails were available in component form and also as part of a complete system. Lifting units for material handling up to 50 tonnes could easily be created. New higher capacity profiles were also introduced at Manufacturing Week, as was the new "Speed and Silent" linear bearing system. A special, highly wear-resistant rubber coating almost completely removes the noise created by the bearings running along the profiles. The result is a maintenance-free system capable of travel speeds of over 3m/sec.

The building block principle of ZIMM screw jacks allows for nine different design options from each of 12 sizes offered. Maximum lifting capacity now ranges from 250N to 1,000kN, with the introduction of two new high capacity sizes at the same exhibition.

Angle gear drives which combine the highest levels of quality and reliability with extremely competitive pricing were also featured. The Mondial range of drives previously marketed under the brand Technobi, are directly interchangeable with a wide variety of other makes. They are available in four sizes with either two or three shafts, in ratios of 1:1 and 2:1; maximum input speed is 3000 rpm. Most sizes are now available ex-stock.

Several new components and sizes were introduced at the show to enhance the proven versatility of Hepco's Kijeon Aluminium Frame Building System. The system is unmatched in its combination of low cost, with high quality. It is proving highly popular as a flexible alternative to traditional welded steel frames. Space saving interior brackets make the framework easy to construct, without any need for drilling or machining. As well as a new catalogue on the Kijeon system, new CAD disks in DWG and DXF formats were also be available on the stand.

A load capacity more than 20 times greater than a standard linear ball bearing and a working life 270 times longer, are the principal benefits of the latest Hepco-Pacific Simplicity range. These plain bearings now feature the FrelonGOLD liner material as standard and are available ex-stock. Simplicity bearings now make ideal replacements for rolling element bearings, since the new liner material reduces friction and wear by 60 per cent and increases speed potential by 110 per cent. In common with their forerunners, the FrelonGOLD bearings are able to operate effectively in extremely hostile environments even in seawater!
