Glacier Industrial Bearings announce the publication of a technical handbook covering their range of oil-retaining sintered bearings. The 48 page book provides designers with information on the materials available, performance calculations and standard shapes. It also provides full dimensional information on cylindrical and flanged sintered bronze bushes available from stock to suit shaft sizes from 2 mm to 125 mm diameter.
Oil-retaining sintered bearings provide a maintenance-free solution for many bearing applications. They provide an easily installed, compact bearing assembly with low friction and excellent seizure resistance (see Plate 5). Glacier sintered bearings are used extensively in a wide range of equipment including domestic appliances, automotive, robotics, off-highway, off-shore facilities, printing machines and machine tools.

In addition to the standard stocked range of sintered bronze bearings that provide excellent performance for general applications, other bronze grades and iron grades for more arduous duty are available to special order. Similarly, the bearings may be impregnated with alternative grades of oil and solid lubricant is available for slow speed, high load applications. These options are fully explained in the handbook. Glacier also stocks rods, tubes and flat plates of oil-retaining bronze for customers to machine to their own specifications.
