The Kestrel mobile purifier (see Plate 2) can extend the active working life of cutting fluids almost indefinitely by removing suspended solids and tramp oil contaminants. Maximum production efficiency is achieved by eliminating unnecessary shut downs for cleaning, while maintaining optimum safety and working conditions for operators. Fluid replacement is limited to cover natural loss only, and the primary source of offensive odours, bacteriological growth, and their potential health hazards, is removed. Problems associated with the management and disposal of waste oil products are also minimised or removed entirely, guaranteeing compliance with current legislation and future proofing against even more stringent conditions that could be imposed.

The unit can be used with all cutting and grinding fluids and easily moved for relocation and operation with different machines. It uses a floating suction device to continuously collect the surface layer of coolant fluid which is pumped through a lamella separator package. This effectively removes all floating contaminants and solid particulate matter in one operation with a throughput up to 300 litres/hr. The purified fluid is returned under gravity to the machine sump and collected solid waste material stored separately for periodic discharge. Even major hydraulic leakages into the cutting fluid can be accommodated, and an automatic self-cleaning process maintains purifier efficiency and prevents blockages.

The operation is automatic and continuous and does not require monitoring or maintenance which would otherwise reduce overall production efficiency. There is no need to shut down machining operations while the purifier is working and the unit is simply wheeled from machine to machine to maintain the highest level of coolant and machine cleanliness.

The Kestrel can be supplied on hire with full support and maintenance. After two years, ownership would be transferred to the hirer.
